Bill Clinton Says Obama's Approval Rating Will Jump After GOP Picks Candidate

Former President Bill Clinton said Sunday that he feels for President Obama as his approval rating continues to drip, but Clinton remained optimistic that Obama would bounce back once the GOP’s presidential candidate is selected.

“When you are out there running against yourself and people feel miserable, it’s hard to see your numbers go up,” Clinton said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

“When he’s got a real opponent and people get to evaluate real alternatives, and the get to see how the Republicans respond to his speech… I think we’ll be in a different world politically,” he added.

RNC Chair Tags Obama As "Campaigner-In-Chief"

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus tagged President Obama as “Campaigner-in-Chief” Tuesday during a conference call previewing the president’s upcoming travel plans to publicize his American Jobs Act.

“He loves campaigning, he loves raising money, he loves giving big speeches because that’s what he’s good at,” Priebus said. “But, he’s not good at following through on his promises and getting this economy back on the rails.”

The RNC Chair was critical of the cities Obama selected to visit - Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia - and argued that they were selected because they are battleground states for the 2012 presidential election.

Additionally, while Obama has continued to assure Congress and the public that his jobs bill is paid for, the RNC chair argued that these claims are fraudulent and said that Obama has yet to offer a credible method of paying for the $447 billion bill, legislation Priebus calls “Stimulus 2.”

Pelosi: Obama's Done His Part, Now It's Congress' Turn

Soon after President Obama presented his American Jobs Act to Congress on Monday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) followed suit and released the following statement urging fellow members of Congress to schedule immediate action and hearings on the President’s legislation:

“President Obama has done his part: soon sending the American Jobs Act to Congress to create jobs, strengthen small businesses, rebuild America, and grow our economy now. We must take up and pass this legislation without further delay.

“For more than 250 days in the majority, House Republicans have failed to offer a jobs agenda. They now have the opportunity to change course, to pass the American Jobs Act, and to put people to work.

“Our nation’s families, workers, entrepreneurs, teachers, police officers, firefighters and veterans must not and cannot wait any longer; they cannot afford political gamesmanship.  Democrats are prepared to act now on the American Jobs Act, which is fully paid for. Republicans must join us to address the American people’s top priority: job creation.”

Reid Takes Coburn To Task For Blocking Food Safety Measure

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) issued the following statement Thursday blasting Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn (R) for opposing food safety measures.

“In Senator Coburn’s world, children who get sick and even die from eating unsafe food are less important than petty political posturing – and instead of standing up for these kids, Senate Republicans have rewarded Senator Coburn by electing him part of their leadership.”

“Senator Coburn’s excuses for obstructing may shift with the winds, but the result remains the same: he is the only thing standing in the way of common-sense measures to make sure the food we feed our children is safe.  Senator Coburn should stop putting politics ahead of the safety of middle-class families in Oklahoma, Nevada, and across the country, and join with both Democrats and Republicans to make sure our food is safe.”
