The Talk Radio News Service is committed to corporate responsibility. In the past, we have driven soup trucks for Martha’s Table in Washington, D.C. Currently, our staff is involved with the Marsha Barbour Community Resource Center, a program of Mississippi Cares International, in Pass Christian, MS. Bureau Chief Ellen Ratner is a co-founder of the Marsha Barbour Center and is president of its Board of Directors.

TRNS staff members have visited the Marsha Barbour Center, and have helped train local community members in the use of New Tek TriCasters and other video production tools. TRNS correspondents Geoff Holtzman and Justin Duckham traveled to Pass Christian in August of 2010 to put their video production and editing knowledge to use, and discovered a staff eager to explore new technology and a group of exceptional young people, grateful for the opportunity to learn new skills.

“Being able to go down there and help expose the Marsha Barbour Center to new and exciting cutting-edge equipment was truly a one-of-a-kind experience,” said Holtzman.

TRNS staff members continue to consult with Mississippi Cares International on issues such as web presence and audio production.

The Talk Radio News Service is also involved with several projects in Southern Sudan. Working with Christian Solidarity International, TRNS staff members have initiated three projects:

The first teaches Coherent breathing techniques to Sudanese citizens that have experienced post traumatic stress due to having been exposed to over 22 years of war. The second initiative is a micro-enterprise business that involves helping polio survivors produce crosses for sale in the U.S. and Europe. The third is developing basketball courts, showers and latrines as a lead-in to literacy, teamwork, hygiene and team and community building.
