Reid On GOP: They Talk The Talk, Can't Walk The Walk

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Thursday that Republican lawmakers talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk when it comes to creating jobs.

“My Republican colleagues certainly pay lip service to the unemployment crisis in this country, but in the end actions speak louder than words,” Reid said.

Reid blasted lawmakers who opposed the president’s jobs plan and argued that they join the majority of Americans who support the provisions included in the legislation.

“Americans couldn’t care less who proposed the plan or who gets the credit,” Reid said. “The only thing they care about is that Congress gets to work putting them back to work.”

House Republican Calls For Social Welfare Spending Freeze Once Economy Recovers

By Kaeun Yu

During remarks at the Heritage Foundation Thursday, Rep.  Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) advocated freezing social welfare spending once the unemployment rate improves.

“When there’s tough economic times, the social spending picks up,” Jones said. “When we get out of those tough economic times, the social spending just stays there and continues to grow.”

The freeze would be incased via a piece of legislation entitled the Spending Reduction Act. It would ultimately bring social down spending to 2007 levels and then keep it there.

White House Denies New York Times Report

A story published late Sunday night on the New York Times’ website about the Obama administration’s plans to unleash an ad assault on the GOP this fall is “100% inaccurate,” according to a White House official.

“The Times is just flat-out, 100 percent wrong,” the official said. “The first time Obama’s advisers heard about a national ad campaign is when the story showed up on the Times’ website last night.”

Speaker Boehner?

Politico is reporting today that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is positioning himself to be the face of the GOP ahead of this fall’s midterm elections. Boehner, along with help from the NRCC, recently launched a “Boehner for Speaker” fundraising committee. Of course, his party will have to win back the majority in the House in November in order for Boehner to wrestle the gavel from current Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
