New Data Projects 50 Seat Pickup In House For GOP

A new poll released by The Hill today shows that Republicans could gain as many as 50 seats in the House next week.

The poll, conducted by a group led by former Hillary Clinton adviser Mark Penn, surveyed over 17,000 likely voters in 42 congressional districts that are considered toss-ups.

“We didn’t even poll in about 15 districts that are already too far gone for Democrats,” Penn said.

Paul Debate Head Stomper Is Also Donor

Tim Profitt, the man shown on videotape stomping on the head of a MoveOn member before a Kentucky senatorial debate, gave the campaign of Republican nominee Rand Paul almost $2,000 last year, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics.

Together, Profitt and his wife, Carolyn, contributed $2,400 to the Republican in 2009. Tim Profitt is also the coordinator of Paul’s campaign in Bourbon County...

Rockefeller Demands Answers From Facebook

Sen. John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) asked the head of the largest social networking site in the world on Tuesday for a response to a new report highlighting privacy breaches within the company.

Rockefeller, who chairs the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, wrote to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg after the Wall Street Journal last week published a story claiming that applications on the site had transmitted users’ real names to third party advertisers.

The West Virginia Democrat also wrote to MySpace President Michael Jones after a subsequent Wall Street Journal investigation determined that that company had also transferred user ID’s to outside companies.

Clinton To Tour Pacific Ahead Of Obama

The State Department announced on Monday that Secretary Hillary Clinton will embark on a 12-day trip through Asia beginning on October 27. Clinton will travel to Hawaii before making her way to Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Austrailia. She will return to Washington on November 8.

The Secretary’s trip will force her to be abroad on Election Night (November 2). Meanwhile, President Barack Obama takes a 10-day Asian tour of his own starting on November 4...

Poll: Obama's Approval Ratings Hit New Low

A new poll conducted by Harris Interactive shows that two-thirds of the country disapproves of the job being done by President Barack Obama.

As expected, nine out of ten Republicans surveyed gave Obama low marks, while roughly one out of three Democrats did, as well. 70% of Independents said they disapproved of the President’s job performance.
