Obama: 9/11 Didn't Change Everything
President Barack Obama marked the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 with a speech at the Kennedy Center Sunday evening, wherein the President noted that the terrorist attacks changed the U.S. in countless ways, but failed to shake the country’s core beliefs.
“These past 10 years underscores the bonds between all Americans,” Obama said. “We have not succumbed to suspicion, nor have we succumbed to mistrust.
“Our people still work in skyscrapers. Our stadiums are still filled with fans, and our parks full of children playing ball. Our airports hum with travel, and our buses and subways take millions where they need to go,” Obama added. “This land pulses with the optimism of those who set out for distant shores, and the courage of those who died for human freedom.”
The President’s remarks came as part of a memorial concert sponsored by the National Cathedral. The event also featured performances by country star Alan Jackson, R&B singer Patti Labelle and vocalist Denyce Graves.
The concert was also attended by a handful of administration officials, including Vice President Joe Biden, Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
