Prominent Business Group Opposes Pro-Union Bill

U.S. Chamber of Commerce official Glenn Spencer released the following statement after President Barack Obama addresed members of the AFL-CIO earlier today:

“We welcome the President’s call to rebuild our economy, but taking away the private ballot and imposing government-dictated union contracts on employers won’t help. Misguided bills like Card Check, overbearing regulations from the Department of Labor, and a slanted NLRB will only discourage America’s job creators from putting people back to work.”

Runaway Well On Life Support After "Static Kill" Procedure

After drilling and pumping mud and heavy drilling fluid into the capped oil well in the Gulf Coast, a procedure also known as “static kill,” the now infamous well is that much closer to being completely stopped.

BP officials said that the procedure was a great success but they continue to monitor the status of the well.

“The well pressure is now being controlled by the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling mud, the desired outcome of the static kill procedure,” BP said in a statement. “The well is now being monitored, per the procedure, to ensure the well remains static [and] further pumping of mud may or may not be required depending on the results observed during monitoring.”

This breakthrough comes 106 days after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, killing 11 people and dumped close to 5 million of barrels into the region’s waters.

Reid's Challenger Angling For Soft Media Coverage

Sharron Angle, the conservative Republican who is running neck and neck with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in the race for Reid’s seat this November, wants the press on her side.

“We needed to have the press be our friend,” said Angle to a perplexed Carl Cameron of Fox News. “We wanted them to ask the questions we want to answer so that they report the news the way we want it to be reported.”
