Obama Makes Grave Appeal To Main Street

In a televised interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes” that is set to run in full this Sunday evening, President Obama warns that failure by Congress to raise the debt limit could jeopardize millions of seniors who rely on government assistance to get by.

In a brief video clip published today by CBS in advance of Sunday’s broadcast, Obama tells interviewer Scott Pelley that he “cannot guarantee” that Social Security checks will go out on August 3, the date after which the Treasury Department says it will no longer be able to borrow money to pay its obligations.

“I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3 if we haven’t resolved this issue.”
