Boehner: Obama's 'Stimulus' Bill Failed

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) released the following statement after Congress marked the 2 year anniversary of President Obama’s Recovery and Reinvestment Act:

“The legacy of the ‘stimulus’ spending bill is clear: it failed. After two years and a trillion dollars, the American people are still wondering: where are the jobs?

“Since President Obama signed the ‘stimulus,’ we’ve lost 1.8 million private sector jobs and added trillions of dollars to our debt. The unemployment rate has been at or above nine percent for twenty-one months despite the Administration’s promise it wouldn’t go above eight percent. When you combine the spending binge with the tax hikes and excessive regulations of the last two years, it’s no wonder small businesses remain paralyzed with uncertainty, unable to plan, invest, or hire new workers.

“Republicans are listening to the American people and focusing on creating a better environment for private sector job growth. This week’s vote to cut $100 billion in discretionary spending is just another step in our effort to liberate our economy from the shackles of debt, over-taxation, and excessive regulations — and help get Americans back to work.”
