Castle Won’t Hold Write-In Campaign

Rep. Mike Castle (R-De.) announced Wednesday that he will not enter Delaware’s Senatorial race via a write-in campaign.

Castle, who lost his party’s primary to tea party candidate Christine O’Donnell in one of the biggest upsets of the campaign season, said in a statement that he considered staying in the race, but ultimately decided it would be detrimental to his state.

“I do not believe that seeking office in this manner is in the best interest of all Delawareans,” Castle said.

Castle’s decision leaves O’Donnell as the only challenger to Democratic nominee Chris Coons. A recent Rasmussen poll found O’Donnell trailing Coons by nine percent.
