Congress Hits Campaign Trail, Tax Cuts In Limbo
Congress approved the spending bill that will keep the government up and running until December 3 yesterday. The Continuing Resolution, or CR, bankrolls the budget for all federal programs beginning October 1, the first day of the new fiscal year.
However, after a political tug of war between Democrats and Republicans over the extension of tax cuts for all Americans, a vote never materialized and the issue remains in limbo as lawmakers return home to hit the campaign trail.
House Minority Leader John Boehner blasted Democrats yesterday saying they were putting their jobs beofre those of the American people.
“They’re turning their back on the American people,” Boehner said.
Democrats plan to tackle the issue in the lame-duck session after November’s midterm election. While they linger in limbo, Bush-era tax cuts are scheduled to expire january 1, 2011.
