Sebelius: Democrats Will Not Lose Majority
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said this morning that she doesn’t believe Republicans will win back Congress this fall.
“Having run 8 times in Kansas as a Democrat, I tend to be optimistic about outcomes. I am not one of the people who believe that the House and Senate is going to be majority Republican come January. I could be wrong, but let’s start there,” the former Governor said.
While Sebelius and other Democrats display confidence that their party will prevail this fall, most analysts are predicting big gains for the GOP. Independent pollster Charlie Cook has Republicans winning at least 40 seats in the House, and seven to nine seats in the Senate. The GOP needs to win 39 House seats to gain control.
Sebelius spoke at a breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. In addition to speculating on the upcoming elections, Sebelius told reporters to focus on the large amount of money being spent on anti-healthcare reform ads.
“I have never seen a situation like this at least in my lifetime. The amount of money being spent is just staggering. … I think that’s pretty dangerous.”
