The unemployment statistics for march

By Michael Ruhl, University of New Mexico – Talk Radio News Service

Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Keith Hall testifies before Congress on the nation's unemployment numbers from March 2009, and how the recession has affected employment.

Hall said that unemployment numbers have climbed from 8.1 percent to 8.5 percent, and that the industries hardest hit are manufacturing, construction, and temporary services.

Sen. Brownback: Looking at ways to lessen dependence on foreign oil

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) talks about the Open Fuel Standard Act which would require that fifty percent of new automobiles be fuel flex vehicles by 2012. Brownback explains that the U.S. sends over half a trillion dollars per year to OPEC and non-OPEC nations for imported oil. He says that the nation’s foreign policy has been dictated in part for the need for foreign oil for far too long. (1:11)
