Sen. Lieberman: If you mandate it, the customers will come

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) says that if the U.S. government mandates that fifty percent of new automobiles be flex fuel vehicles by 2012, Americans would be buy them and would help decrease the nation’s dependence on foreign oil. He says that “you can improve the miles you get” per gallon of gasoline but “you’re still dependent on foreign oil.” Lieberman explains that Americans have the capability to power their vehicles with ethanol and methanol from within the country, a process that would greatly lessen the dependence on foreign oil, and a process that is “essential to the greatness of our country.” (1:16)
