Obama Remembers Steve Jobs

President Obama released the following statement in response to Apple’s announcement earlier this evening that co-founder Steve Jobs has died.

“Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity.  By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun.  And by turning his talents to storytelling, he has brought joy to millions of children and grownups alike. Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last.  Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve’s wife Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him.”

Palin Not Running In 2012

Former Alaska Governor told conservative radio host Mark Levin Wednesday that she will not be seeking the Republican nomination for President.

Levin made the announcement via Twitter and read a statement written by Palin on the air.

Palin’s decision to bow out of the race puts an end to over two years worth of White House buzz. While Palin declined to follow the traditional routes of most would-be candidates, she kept speculation alive by refusing to officially decline a run and hosting a small bus tour earlier this year.

The announcement comes on the heels of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s decision to stay out of the race. Her exit means that the GOP field has essentially solidified.

Justice Breyer: Politics Never Sway Supreme Court

Associate Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer told the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday that politics plays less of a role in Supreme Court decisions than many in the public think.

“When you put on the robes, you take off the politics,” Breyer, sitting alongside fellow Justice Antonin Scalia, said during a hearing.

The committee members’ questions varied from types of cases heard to whether or not supreme court cases should be videotaped for public consumption.

To the later question, proposed by Senator Blumenthal (D-CT), Scalia responded that despite the argument that the videos would educate the people, he believed most people would only see a 30 second tape that “would not be representative of what we do.”

New Fast And Furious Documents Put Holder In Hot Water

Turns out Attorney General Eric Holder may have known about the controversial Fast and Furious operation as early as July 2010, according to new documents obtained by CBS News.

In May of this year, Holder told lawmakers that he had only heard of Fast and Furious in recent weeks prior to his testimony, but Justice Department documents show that Holder was sent a memo about the operation on July 5, 2010 and received additional subsequent memos precluding his Hill appearance earlier this year.

The Justice Department told CBS News that the attorney general misunderstood the committee’s question and that he did, in fact know about Fast and Furious, but was in the dark about the details of the operation.
