Chamber Of Commerce Backing Fiorina

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s premier pro-business lobbying group, is throwing its support behind Republican Carly Fiorina in her quest for the U.S. Senate.

“We’re endorsing Carly because she understands the challenges businesses are facing and will stand up for the people of California during these tough economic times,” said Bill Miller, the U.S. Chamber’s senior vice president and national political director.

With California’s unemployment rate at roughly 12%, the race between Fiorina and three-term incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer (D) figures to hinge on voters’ concerns over the state’s struggling economy.

“She has a common sense approach to job creation and getting America back on the road to recovery,” said Miller.

Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlitt Packard, has history on her side. In 2008, 213 of the 265 Chamber-endorsed candidates (81%) were elected

President Obama's Week Ahead

According to the White House, President Obama will start this week off by honoring the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints in the East Room.  In the afternoon, the President will travel to Texas. He will deliver remarks in Austin at a DNC finance event and at the University of Texas at Austin. He will also travel to Dallas, Texas to attend a DSCC finance event. President Obama will spend the following four days working in Washington. On Wednesday, he will meet with his national security team on Iraq.

Petraeus To Give First Interview As Afghan Commander Next Week  

General David Petraeus will give his first interview since taking command of coalition forces in Afghanistan next Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press.

According to the Meet the Press website, host David Gregory will travel to Afghanistan for next week’s episode.

Petraeus served as the head of U.S. Central Command from fall 2008 till early last month, when he replaced General Stanley McChrystal as Afghan Commander.

Obama Meets With New Orleans Saints

President Barack Obama met with the Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints at the White House Monday, and applauded the team for uplifting the troubled city.

The Saints held a football clinic with D.C. students earlier Monday and are scheduled to visit troops at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center later in the day.
