Mexican Officials Confident They Will Find Survivors Following Boating Accident

Mexican officials in Tijuana, Mexico Tuesday reassured the families of American tourists involved in a July 3rd boating accident they will continue searching for survivors in the Gulf of California.

On Sunday, the fishing boat, operated and owned by Baja Fishing, capsized after it was caught in a thunderstorm off the coast of Baja California. It had 44 passengers; 16 crew members and 27 American fishermen.

So far 19 of the 27 tourists have been found alive. One was reported dead, but officials have not released his name. 15 of the crew members have been found alive.

Mexican rescuers suspect the remaining 8 victims to still be alive, since the area is known for calm and warm waters.

According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Coast Guard sent a C130 fixed-wing aircraft to expedite and extend the search.
