Afghan President Karzai's Half Brother Assassinated

A half brother to Afghan President Hamid Karzai was assassinated in southern Afghanistan Tuesday, according to officials. 

The death of Ahmed Wali Karzai was confirmed by Zalmai Ayubi and Sediq Sediqqi, spokesmen for the Kandahar province and Ministry of Interior, respectively. The Taliban has taken responsibility for the murder. 

Ahmed Wali Karzai served as the head of the provincial council and was one of the most powerful leaders in southern Afghanistan and he had previously been the target of multiple assassination attempts.
