Ensign Serves His Last Day
Sen. John Ensign (R) will serve his final day today as the junior Senator from Nevada. Ensign announced last week that he would resign from office after learning that more details of his affair with the wife of a campaign aide would soon become public.
Yesterday, though he was overshadowed by the news of Osama bin Laden’s death, Ensign delivered his farewell address on the Senate floor. During his emotional speech, he apologized to his colleagues and offered them some key advice.
“To my Senate colleagues, I would like to take a moment to apologize for what you have had to go through as a result of my actions,” he said. “I know many of you were put in difficult situations because of me, and for that I sincerely apologize.”
“Surround yourself with people who will be honest with you,” he added.
