Republicans Poised To Pass Yet Another CR
GOP lawmakers are prepared to pass another temporary funding measure should leaders fail to produce a long-term agreement by the end of the week.
The latest extension — known as a continuing resolution — would fund the government through April 15 while slashing $12 billion from current spending levels. It would also fund the Department of Defense through the rest of the fiscal year, which concludes at the end of September.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) defended the measure, arguing that it is necessary due to the refusal of the Senate to agree to a long-term deal with House Republicans, who want spending cut by more than the $33 billion being offered by Democrats and White House officials.
“My Committee has worked diligently and fervently to negotiate with the Senate on final agreement for funding the government for the rest of the fiscal year,” Rogers said in a statement. “However, at nearly every turn, these negotiations have been blocked by Senate Majority Leader Reid.”
Rogers will accompany Reid and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to the White House today to continue budget talks with President Obama.
