Clinton Heads To Geneva As Libyan Violence Continues

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is meeting in Geneva Monday with European officials and the UN’s Human Rights Council in an attempt to craft a plan for Libya once embattled despot Moammar Gaddafi is ousted.

Prior to leaving the U.S. Sunday, Clinton said the representatives from the international community will focus on “how we can respond to the needs of the Libyan people not only in a humanitarian way but in a political and civil response as they try to sort through how they’re going to organize themselves post-Qadhafi.”

The Secretary added that one of the other primary goals of the trip will be to push sanctions approved by the UN’s Security Council, which include freezing Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi’s assets and placing travel restrictions on the despot.
