Giuliani thinks Biden comments reveal danger of an Obama presidency

According to Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.)" continues to harbor serious doubts about Obama" in a conference call today. Biden said that Obama would be tested early on in his
presidency so foreign leaders can "test his mettle."

Giuliani added that while Biden believes Sen. Obama (D-Ill.) will be tested, "John McCain has passed every test in his life." He added that voters should choose McCain because he "doesn't pose the same
risk" that Obama does. Giuliani warned that with that statement, Biden was predicting a "very serious incident."

McCain-Palin Foreign Policy Advisor Randy Scheunemann said Obama has demonstrated "stubbornness and inflexibility" in not admitting his past mistakes. He used the example of Obama's willingness to meet unconditionally with other dictators as well as his unwillingness to admit the success of the surge in Iraq.

He said that Biden's comments were an example of "inadvertently speaking the truth." He added this statement by Biden was "very revealing."

Giuliani added that if this statement were made by a Republican, it would be "on the front page" of the New York Times.

Sen. Harkin: Sen. McCain is out of touch with rural communities

Chairman and the Senate Agriculture Committee, Tom Harkin (D-IA), hosted a conference call, highlighting Sen. Barack Obama’s support for development programs that help make sizable investments in infrastructure, rural health, and small business development in small towns. Harkin said that Obama has been the champion for rural development and getting the 2008 farm Bill enacted.

“Unlike Obama, Sen. McCain has opposed every Farm Bill and has stated that he would veto them as well. McCain is out of touch with rural communities, while Obama has fought to save them,” Harkin said during the conference call.

Harkin went on to say that small town jobs are created by their small town businesses, and that without Obama’s economic plan, these businesses will be in jeopardy. “Obama’s plan will take us in a new and better direction that we are desperately seeking,” Harkin said.

ACORN leaders: Don't be afraid of the McCain campaign

ACORN leaders held a press conference, trying to disprove the allegations of voter registration fraud. Reverend Gloria Swierenga, President of the Maryland ACORN, was concerned that these allegations made by the right wing would deter voters from the polls on November 4th. "We will not fall to those that have banded against us because of popularity in the national polls. We must unite through our ability to vote," Swierenga said at the press conference.

Kathryn Kolbert, Chair of the American Way, believes that there will be issues on election day voting day, but not the issues that the right wing keeps talking about. Kolbert said that people should not be shocked at the McCain camp for bringing up voter fraud because ACORN registers low-income citizens who usually vote for the democrat side. "The McCain camp has tried to suppress the lower income families for years and they believe this is the way they can succeed at it," Kolbert said at the press conference.

ACORN has claimed that they should not be blamed for voter fraud, it is not them who should be blamed for the fraud accusations but it should be the registration authority who should be blamed. ACORN also believes that the right wing media has fabricated everything on the voter fraud issue and they feel that the truth will be seen by November 4th.

ACORN poses "immediate concern" for McCain campaign

Co-chairs of the McCain-Palin Honest and Open Election Committee John Danforth and Warren Rudman said that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) posed an immediate concern for those hoping to have a fair and uncontested election.

Danforth outlined the allegations facing ACORN, including evidence the organization registered the same person 73 times, sent in the names of the Dallas Cowboys, and tried to register a seven-year-old.

"We say our safeguards are working...but we don't know how many are slipping through the cracks."

The co-chairs were unable to say if they knew how many may have been wrongly disqualified or how many have been disqualified for human error.

Danforth and Rudman said the Committee is looking for a bipartisan solution and that they have sent a letter to Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee Chair asking for help in rooting out voting fraud by posting volunteers from each campaign in polling places in battleground states to help oversee the election. According to Danforth, this request has gone unanswered for over a month.

The McCain campaign has a 'new housing plan' to save our economy

The campaign of Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) says they have an answer to the current housing crisis. This answer comes in the form of the "American Homeownership Resurgence Plan". Doug Holtz-Eakin, McCain-Palin 2008 senior policy adviser, held a teleconference to outline this new plan. Holtz-Eakin said the plan would provide direct help to home owners, allowing them to stay in their homes and avoid foreclosures that would damage he property values in their neighborhoods. The plan would also provide to the housing market lower interest rates, around five percent.

Holtz-Eakin said, "Starting with the home owner and moving up, you accomplish some of the objectives of the financial stabilization plan that we've seen come out of congress and proposed by the administration in recent weeks. Senator McCain believes this is exactly the right kind of policy, providing direct help to homeowners, at the same time supporting the financial markets and keeping them from further damaging the availability of credit to mainstream America, one of the real threats to the economy at this time." Funding for the initiative would come from authorities, including the $300 billion worth of refinance capacity provided by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and the $700 billion provided by the Treasury Department to Congress.

Even though the FHA and the Treasury Department already have the authority pursue this plan, the McCain campaign believes stabilizing the housing markets haven't really been publicly targeted, and were originally only geared to help four-hundred or five-hundred thousand homeowners. The new plan proposes to aid homeowners on a larger-scale than the FHA and Treasury Department have planned, and therefore be a more effective supplement to the housing crisis response.
