Libyan Officials Sound Alarm For Help
Today the former Libyan Ambassador and members of the Libyan Outreach and Libyan Emergency Task Force pleaded for international support in Libya. Ali Aujali was Libya’s Ambassador to the United States from January 2009 until February 2011, when he resigned in the wake of the Libyan uprising.
Aujali, along with Najla Abdurrahman and Asma Yousef of the Libyan Emergency task force, discussed the current problems facing the Libyan people, particularly the women who live there. Many of the refugee camps in Libya are filled with women, many of whom have been the victims of rape condoned by the dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
They are asking for international support to help those that are suffering in Libya. Asma Ramadan of Libyan Outreach discussed the stagnant money that has resulted because of the chaos and lack of leadership in Libya. “That money could be put to use for humanitarian relief efforts that’s desperately needed right now,” he said.
Aujali said, “I am very proud of the Libyan Community here, you have to keep the momentum. We should not give up. The White House demonstrations have to be every week.”
The former Ambassador mentioned that Tripoli and Benghazi are asking him for his support, and they need to know that their efforts in Libya are appreciated by the international community.
