Poll: 46% Of New Yorkers Want Weiner To Resign

46 percent of New York City residents believe that Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) should resign after lying about Tweeting a racy photograph of his crotch last week, according to a new poll from Survey USA.

41 percent believe that the seven-term Congressman should remain in office and 13 percent replied that they are not sure.

Weiner, who admitted to engaging in online relationships with at least six women both before and during his marriage, told reporters Monday that he would not resign. Following the announcement, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called for an ethics investigation to determine whether or not Weiner used Congressional resources to carry out his communications or violated any of the House’s ethics rules.

Although a popular Congressman, Weiner has signaled prior to the scandal that he was interested in running for Mayor of New York City. According to the poll, only 11 percent of New Yorkers would vote for Weiner and 43 percent would vote against. 45 percent responded that it was “too soon to say.”

Interestingly, 33 percent that the behavior of other members of Congress was “just like Weiner” and 31 percent replied that it was worse. 25 percent said other members’ behavior was better and 11 percent said that they were unsure.

The poll, which was sponsored by New York’s WABC-TV, was conducted among 500 New Yorkers on Monday.
