Bill To Withold Congressional Paychecks In Event Of Shutdown
Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.) introduced a new piece of legislation that would prevent members of Congress and the president from being paid during a shutdown of the federal government, an event that seems more likely as both parties struggle to find common ground.
“A government shutdown would be a disaster for our nation and for our economy,” Boxer said. “If we can’t resolve our differences, we should not receive a paycheck. It is our job to work together for the good of the American people, and that’s why I call on my Republican colleagues to take the government shutdown option off the table.”
Minority Leader Pelosi recently spoke out about the issue of a government shutdown and blasted Republicans saying they responsibility would fall on the shoulders of the new majority.
“It is a failure. It’s really a failure to say we have taken the leadership of the Congress of the United States and the first thing we’re going to do is shut down the government to the detriment of our people, to our security and to our country’s future,” Pelosi said.
