Cantor: Obama Will Share The Blame For A Government Shutdown

If Republicans pursue a government shutdown, Obama will share the blame, according to Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the current House Minority Whip who will likely ascend to Majority Leader following large gains for Republicans in the House.

“[Obama] is the one who sets the agenda as the chief executive and as the president of this country,” Cantor said during an appearance of Fox News Sunday. “[The] Congressional role is to look to and account for the expenditures that have been made, to make sure that his administration is following through on the mission and the will of the people.”

Republicans effectively shut down the federal government in 1995 over tensions between Congress and the Clinton White House over spending cuts.
