House Republican: Designate WikiLeaks A Terrorist Organization
Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), the highest ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, is urging the State Department to designate the whistleblower site WikiLeaks a foreign terrorist organization.
In letter sent to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Sunday, King argued that the site’s history of leaking documents presents “a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States,” a fact that would, in part, qualify the site as a terrorist organization.
“By disclosing such sensitive information, WikiLeaks continues to put at risk the lives of our troops, their coalition partners and those Iraqis and Afghans working with us,” the letter reads.
King’s request comes amid the ongoing release of thousands of confidential State Department cables. Documents pertaining to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were published earlier this year.
