Gov Cracking Down On Sites That Sell Counterfeit Goods

As hordes of consumers turn to the internet to complete their holiday shopping, the U.S. government is attempting to crack down on websites that sell counterfeit goods or illegally distribute copyrighted material.

Within the past week the Justice Department and various law enforcement agencies have performed seizures against 82 websites believed to be behaving illegally, Attorney General Eric Holder said during a press conference Monday.

During the course of this operation, federal law enforcement agents made undercover purchases from a variety of online retailers suspected of selling counterfeit goods,” Holder said. “We are disrupting the sale of thousands of counterfeit items. We are cutting off funds to those looking to profit from the sale of illegal goods and exploit the ingenuity of others.”
