Obama To Appear On The Daily Show, Skip Stewart Rally

President Barack Obama will appear on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart Wednesday  in what will be the first time a sitting president has appeared on the satirical Comedy Central program.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters Tuesday that the appearance will be aimed at bringing the youth vote to the polls.

“You’ve got a constitnetuency of younger voters who watch that show and it’s a good place to go and reach them,” Gibbs said.

The President’s appearance comes just days before Stewart and fellow comedian Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report host the “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear” on the National Mall.

Gibbs said Tuesday that Obama will not attend Saturday’s rally. However, the President has given an endorsement of sorts to it.

“Jon Stewart, the host of “The Daily Show,” apparently he is going to host a rally called something like Americans in Favor of a Return to Sanity or something like that,” Obama said during a backyard appearance late last month. “His point was, you know, 70 percent … of the folks are just like you, which is they’re going about their business, they’re working hard every day, they’re looking after their families.”

The website says Saturday’s rally is aimed at moderates “who’ve been too busy to go to rallies.”
