Notes From Today's White House Press Gaggle
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs took a number of questions on yesterday’s ruling by a federal judge in California that ordered the U.S. military to halt its ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ policy, which prohibits homosexuals from serving openly in the armed forces.
Gibbs told reporters that “time is running out” on DADT and said “this is a policy that is going to end.”
Gibbs deflected questions about whether or not the Department of Justice would appeal the judge’s decision, telling reporters to check with the DOJ.
Yesterday, Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), an openly homosexual lawmaker, said the administration should table its appeal until the Senate can vote to repeal DADT during the lame-duck session of Congress that will convene in mid-November. Earlier this year, the House voted in favor of repeal, yet the measure has stalled in the upper chamber.
