Cannon calls Rove’s subpoena inconvenient

Rep. Chris Cannon (R-Utah) asks Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) if she is aware that the House Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law scheduled a hearing in which former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove was to appear under subpoena on a date he was scheduled to be out of the country. Cannon says that the committee scheduled based on its own convenience and not on Rove’s. Sanchez says that neither Rove nor his attorneys informed the committee of any schedule conflicts. (0:57)

Sanchez sees no reason for Rove's no-show

Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) says that the committee is unaware of a legal basis for Karl Rove’s failure to appear before Congress under subpoena, saying that US courts have made it clear that no American is immune from compulsory process. (0:51)

Smith defends Karl Rove's immunity

Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) says that the president’s immediate advisers have been immune from Congressional testimony since the presidency of George Washington, adding that Karl Rove is the definition of an immediate adviser and that his assertion of immunity should be expected by anyone familiar with historical precedence.
