"The American public knows nothing about the Middle East"

At a public hearing on U.S. Military Aid to the Middle East today, retired Ambassador Edward Peck said, "The American public knows nothing about the Middle East and because they know nothing they are not very interested, and because they’re not very interested they don’t know much, because nobody is going to tell them.”

Senator Kennedy: "We have sickness care and not health care"

At Governor Kathleen Sebelius' nomination hearing for Health Secretary, Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), was back chairing his first Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing since suffering from cancer. He looked in high spirits, smiling throughout the hearing. Kennedy said, “Over the past ten months I’ve seen our health care system up close. I’ve benefited from the best of medicine, but we have too many uninsured Americans. We have sickness care and not health care.”

AIG Chairman Testifies To House Financial Services Committee

Edward Liddy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for American International Group was given unlimited time to deliver his opening statement to the House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee hearing on "American International Group's Impact on the Global Economy: Before, During and After Federal Intervention."

“We have heard the American people loudly and clearly these last few days…We have asked those who received bonuses in excess of $100,000 to return at least half of those payments…some have offered to pay back 100 per cent of those payments,” Liddy added.
