Congressman Sestak On Arlen Specter

By Michael Ruhl, University of New Mexico – Talk Radio News Service

Regarding Arlen Specter changing parties, Congressman Joe Sestak (D-Penn.) said that it's better for the constituents of Pennsylvania to decide which candidate should win the primary. He feels like the Democratic National Party backing Specter may be giving him too much of an advantage in the Pennsylvania primary. President Barack Obama and Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) have already committed to personally supporting Specter in his 2010 election. (00:47)

This is a funny position for Sestak to take. When he announced his candidacy in early 2006, he got "anointed" by the county party to avoid an expensive Primary challenge.

He was also coming in as an outsider to the Democratic party and to the 7th district. Only a few months before, Sestak had been a registered Independent and had been away for 30 years (at sea or in Washington, though he maintained a PA registration and voted sporadically).

This seems like "sour grapes" by Sestak who took all the steps of someone coveting the seat, EXCEPT actually announcing his desire when he had the chance.
