Gene Kimmelman, Vice President for Federal and International Radio Affairs, provided a historical context on the proposed satellite radio merger hearings.

Mr. Kimmelman drew attention to 1984 when the cable companies cried to be deregulated to spur competition between themselves and broadcast television.
