Gene Kimmelman, Vice President for Federal and International Radio Affairs, provided a historical context on the proposed satellite radio merger hearings.
Mr. Kimmelman drew attention to 1984 when the cable companies cried to be deregulated to spur competition between themselves and broadcast television. He notes that between 1986 and 1992 the price for cable went up steadily until the government stepped in again. He warns, history may repeat itself. (00:36)
