After Bruising Thursday, Dow Finishes The Week Up Slightly
UPDATE (9:55 am): Just like that, the Dow is now down 50 points, after losing 200 points in roughly 20 minutes.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed nearly 100 points before markets opened on Friday. The spike coincided with the release of the latest unemployment report, which revealed that the nation’s economy added 117,000 jobs in July, more than most experts had previously anticipated.
The gains occurred in the stock futures market, which had been down 150 points overnight. In fact, everything was down yesterday, as the Dow lost 513 points in total.
The losses marked the Dow’s worst day in terms of points lost since December of 2008.
