Boehner Adds Balanced Budget Amendment To Debt Plan

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is apparently revising his debt proposal a second time.

In an effort to sway Conservative lawmakers, the bill now includes language that would make an extension of the debt limit contingent upon both chambers passing the Balanced Budget amendment. The bill is now expected to go to the floor for a vote Friday.

The bill, which would offer two six-month extensions of the debt limit in exchange for $916 billion in cuts and establish a committee to find additional savings, was scheduled to be voted on Thursday evening, but was postponed after Republican leaders were unsure if they had enough support.

Senate Democrats have unanimously agreed to not vote for the Boehner bill and the White House has indicated that the President would veto it if it reached his desk.
