Senate Plan The Only Real Compromise, Says Reid
Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) said Tuesday the his proposal to tackle the debt ceiling is the only plan that involves compromise.
“The Senate plan is the only real compromise we have in Congress today, and it’s the best shot we to avoiding an economic crisis a week from today,” Reid said during a press conference.
Reid noted that it should find bipartisan support since it protects entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid, a concern shared by Democrats, and meets the GOP criteria for debt plan by not containing revenues and matching the amount of cuts of the debt ceiling increase.
“Speaker Boehner’s plan is not a compromise, it was written for the Tea Party not the American people,” said Reid. He noted that Democrats will remain united against the plan to raise the ceiling in two six month steps, adding, “It is dead upon arrival in the Senate.”
