Poll: Generic Republican Leads Obama
A majority of voters are willing to vote for a generic Republican than President Barack Obama, according to a new Gallup poll.
The survey shows that an unnamed Republican leads Obama by 47 to 39 percent, a three point increase from the previous month.
“President Obama’s re-election prospects do not look very favorable at this point — if the election were held today,” Gallup’s Jeffrey M. Jones said in a statement. “However, that result does not necessarily mean he is likely to be denied a second term in November 2012. At this point in 1991, George H.W. Bush looked like a sure bet to win a second term, but he was defeated.”
The poll was conducted between July 7 and 10th among 897 registered voters.
