King Looks At Muslim Radicalization In U.S. Prisons
Rep. Peter King’s (R-N.Y.) second round of “Muslim-American radicalization” hearings went more smoothly than the first did.
Lacking the frenzied presence of the media and the tensions of civil rights groups, the hearing on the “threat of Muslim-American radicalization in U.S. prisons” resembled that of any other hearing taking place on Capitol Hill.
“The first radicalization hearing which this committee held in March of this year was met with much mindless hysteria — led by radical groups such as the Council of Islamic Relations and their allies in the liberal media personified by the New York Times,” King said.
Many witnesses testified on behalf of the notion that United States prisons serve as a recruiting hub for al Qaeda and other radical extremist groups. Those notions, however, were seemingly watered down after witnesses acknowledged the rarity of occasions where U.S. prisoners have become radicalized.
