John Bryson To Succeed Locke As Commerce Secretary
President Barack Obama will name businessman John Bryson Tuesday as his administration’s choice to replace Gary Locke as Commerce Secretary.
Bryson is the former Chairman and CEO of Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison. Bryson is also on the board of directors of Boeing and Walt Disney Company. In a statement, President Obama said that his business credentials demonstrates that Bryson “understands what it takes for America to succeed in a 21st century global economy.”
“John will be an important part of my economic team, working with the business community, fostering growth, and helping open up new markets abroad to promote jobs and opportunities here at home,” Obama said.
Gary Locke, who served at the Commerce Department since the opening days of the Obama presidency, is leaving his post to be the next United States envoy to China.
The formal announcement will be made during a ceremony in the White House’s State Dining Room.
This is a developing story…
