Holder: I Hope PATRIOT Act Is Reauthorized

Attorney General Eric Holder reminded members of the House Judicial Committee Tuesday that complacency is not acceptable in the fight against terrorism and pledged support for reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act.

“Although we all can be proud of Sunday’s successful operation – and we can all be encouraged by the way that thousands of Americans have joined together at this defining moment in our fight against terrorism – we cannot become complacent.  This fight is far from over,” Holder said.

Holder testified before the committee to outline future plans for the Justice Department and he reiterated that the PATRIOT Act has provided the Department with the authority to acquire intelligence used to protect Americans.

“We will continue to utilize the critical authorities provided under the provisions of the Patriot Act, which I hope Congress will move promptly to reauthorize for a substantial period of time,” Holder said.
