Dempsey To Be Named Chairman Of Joint Chiefs
Army Gen. Martin Dempsey is slated to become President Barack Obama’s next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
According the National Journal, Obama is expected to make his announcement soon after reports surfaced that front-runner Marine Gen. James Cartwright was passed over for the top military position.
Sources indicated that although Cartwright had bipartisan support in the Senate, which would ultimately vote for his confirmation, the Marine General reportedly crossed paths with sitting Chair Adm. Mike Mullen, who is stepping down in October.
Dempsey recently ascended atop the Army as its chief of staff after Gen. George Casey retired earlier this year.
