Obamas Meet With The Royal Family

While in England Tuesday on the second leg of a six-day diplomatic trip to Europe, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama met with members of the Royal family.

The Obamas met with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, as well as Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and the royal newlyweds Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Wales.

A ceremony in the was held at the Palace’s West Terrace for their arrival, which included a 41 shot gun salute and the Scots Guards band playing the American National Anthem. The President engaged in a little royal pomp, inspecting the Scots Guard with Prince Phillip.

According to the White House, the Obamas marked their visit by giving the Queen “a collection of rare memorabilia and photographs in a handmade leather bound album that chronologically highlights her parents’ visit to the United States in 1939.” In turn, the Queen gave the First Family a collection of letters sent between American Presidents and Queen Victoria as well as an antique broach for the First Lady.
