Boehner: We Struck A Nerve By Asking For Trillions
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Thursday that his call to cut trillions in spending in return for raising the nation’s debt limit has Democrats scrambling.
“Clearly we struck a nerve, and the response from the White House and Democrats from the left has been panic and hysteria,” Boehner said Thursday from the Capitol.
Boehner shot down criticisms that continuing to delay raising the debt ceiling would negatively impact a recovering economy and its fragile markets.
“I believe if we don’t act boldly, and act boldly now, the market will act for us very soon,” Boehner said. “For years Washington has gotten away with kicking the can down the road and dealing with higher deficits without ever facing the realities of government’s spending addiction. While this may be hard for the Washington crowd to accept, those days are over.”
