Leaked Cables Reveal U.S. Funding Of Syrian Opposition

The United States secretly funded Syrian opposition groups, including providing financial assistance to broadcast anti-government programming to the country, according to recently leaked diplomatic cables.

Cables leaked by the infamous Wiki Leaks revealed that U.S. Embassy officials reconsidered in 2009 its involvement in the country after Syrian intelligence began pursuing questions about U.S. programs. 

Although the cables do not reveal whether the State Department is still provinding financial assistance to groups pursuing a regime change in Syria, they show that U.S. assistance was being disseminated into September 2010.
