Paul Ryan: Obama Has Failed To Lead, Fix Fiscal Crisis
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), chair of the House Budget Committee, said Tuesday that he hopes President Obama will take a serious approach to the deficit when he delivers remarks on the subject Wednesday, but noted that thus far, the President “has failed to lead on fixing our fiscal problems” and already presented an “irresponsible” budget earlier this year.
“If the President does choose to follow our lead with serious proposals that address the drivers of our debt, save our health and retirement security programs, and remove the anchors holding back our economy, the door is open,” Ryan said.
Ryan applauded Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) Tuesday for securing billions of dollars in spending cuts while helping craft a plan to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year.
“I’m encouraged to see the House Republicans’ leadership advance a budget debate our country deserves,” Ryan said in a statement.
