Former Senators Urge Lawmakers To Adopt Sensible, Bipartisan Energy Policy

Former Senators Trent Lott (R-Miss.) and Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) announced Tuesday that they will be urging lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to pursue sensible, bipartisan energy policy.
“I’ve always felt that there are some areas clearly should be bipartisan… and energy should be one of those,” Lott said during a press conference Tuesday at the Bipartisan Policy Center.
The campaign will also include participation from General James L. Jones (Ret.), former National Security Advisor to President Obama, and William K. Reilly, the EPA Administrator under President George H.W. Bush. The Senators announced that the project will add a bipartisan group of 10 to 12 additional members to be named within weeks.
In an open letter to Congress and the White House, the group urged “an active and public process to identify a small number of specific, credible, actionable energy security goals,” including a plan to move the U.S. away from foreign oil dependency.
“Energy security is … economic security,” added Dorgan.
