Wisconsin Senate Dems Now Hold 1,500 Jobs In Their Hands

The pressure on Wisconsin Senate Democrats to return to the state has taken a turn for the worse after Gov. Scott Walker and GOP senators found them in contempt.

The 14 democratic senators went rogue on February 17 in protest to a state budget bill that eliminates the collective bargaining rights of union employees. Since then, the remaining 19 Republican State Senators voted 19-0 to find the runaway senators in contempt.

Now, Gov. Scott Walker is threatening to layoff 1,500 state employees if Senate Democrats fail to return. The potential layoffs would save an estimated $30 million for the state.

“Even today I hold out some hope that this can be resolved by the Senate coming back,” Walker said in a Thursday interview. “But by the end of the day tomorrow, we have a legal and a moral obligation to start forewarning people.”
