Bingaman Endorses Obama's Energy Strategy

Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, is optimistic about President Obama’s plan to reduce American dependance on foreign oil.

The plan, which Obama mapped out during a speech at Georgetown University on Wednesday, calls for expanding U.S. oil production, increasing the use of natural gas in vehicles, and improving ethanol production. Bingaman released the following statement encouraging the President’s efforts:

“The President’s plan to reduce America’s reliance on imported oil is ambitious, but achievable.  It’s a great priority for our country, and the President is doing a good thing by focusing the public’s attention on ways to make ourselves more secure and control our energy future.  It’s going to take a lot of concerted effort by Congress and our committee, but the course of action the President set for the country today makes a lot of sense.”
