White House Pushes Back Against Boehner's Letter
White House spokesman Jay Carney responded Wednesday to concerns raised by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) over how President Obama has engineered the U.S.’ mission of enforcing a no-fly zone in Libya.
Among other things, Boehner’s letter on Wednesday beckoned Obama to more clearly articulate America’s role to lawmakers and members of the public.
“We obviously take very seriously…the need for Congressional consultations,” Carney said during a briefing with reporters aboard Air Force One as it returned to Washington from a four-day trip to Latin America.
“We have done them and will continue to do them. I would also say that it’s important to remember that in the run-up to this action we were criticized somewhat, in fact fairly frequently, by those who felt like we weren’t moving quickly enough. And now there are some who are criticizing us for not going—for going too quickly.”
