Wisconsin Judge Blocks New Union Curbing Law
A Wisconsin judge has temporarily blocked Gov. Scott Walker’s law that strips public worker unions of their collective bargaining rights.
Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the order to block the law came after District Attorney Ismael Ozanne filed suit against the law.
Ozanne filed suit arguing that the committee that allowed for the legislation to advance met without the 24-hour notice required by Wisconsin’s open meetings law.
“It seems to me the public policy behind effective enforcement of the open meeting law is so strong that it does outweigh the interest, at least at this time, which may exist in favor of sustaining the validity of the [law],” Sumi said.
